Antirot: A Revolutionary Solution for Bearing Securement in Gearboxes

20. 06. 2025

Introduction

Approximately for a year now, we have been integrating a specially shaped cutout for bearings into our gearboxes which we have named Antirot. This cutout is designed for use with special Antirot bearings, but also ensures compatibility with standard bearings.

History and Development of the Antirot Solution

In the first generation we implemented three Antirot cutouts into the gearboxes, which did not prove effective in practice. Based on valuable user feedback, we simplified the design to a single Antirot cutout at each bearing opening, thereby ensuring a firmer seating for standard bearings, preventing cracking of some ball bearings, and simultaneously preserving Antirot functionality.

Why Did We Develop Antirot?

The main reason was to eliminate the frequent problem of round bearings spinning and subsequently eroding the openings in the gearbox. The Antirot solution effectively addresses this problem, not only preventing the bearing from spinning but, in combination with the groove for adhesives (described below), providing a long-term and reliable solution.

An Interesting Fact from Practice

Previously, we observed problems with the cages of branded ball bearings breaking apart. Paradoxically, unbranded ball bearings exhibited standard lifespan without defects.

Standardization of Bearing Diameter

We excluded the 9mm bore diameter because it did not prove effective, especially with ball bearings. Although it might seem that a larger diameter means more material and thus higher durability, the opposite is true. Therefore, we now standardly offer only gearboxes with an 8mm bearing bore diameter.

Difference in Gear Shaft Diameters

Frequent questions concern the difference between 3mm and 4mm for bearings. This diameter refers to the diameter of the gear shaft. We will continue to offer both variants (3mm and 4mm), as they remain on the market in a ratio of approximately 50/50.

Adhesive Groove: Another Innovation in Our CNC Gearboxes

Another innovation in our CNC gearboxes is the adhesive groove for bearings. When applying adhesive, extreme caution is necessary. Incorrect application can easily glue the ball bearing. However, with careful gluing, the bearing's strength is perfect, and we recommend applying this method in every gearbox.

New Antirot Ball Bearing (Mid-2025)

In mid-2025, we introduced a novelty – the Antirot ball bearing. This bearing features a massive steel, heat-treated frame that combines the advantages of plain bush durability with the low resistance of a ball bearing. Based on user feedback, we have made further improvements and will soon launch the latest generation of the Antirot ball bearing.

Impact of the Antirot Solution

Thanks to these innovations, several key bearing problems have been solved, and at the same time, expensive gearboxes have been preventively protected from easy damage caused by a spun bearing.
